Throughout his career,
Bashman has accepted pro bono
appointments from the U.S. Court
of Appeals for the Third Circuit
in a wide variety of cases. In
recent years, the Third Circuit
has asked Bashman to handle three
particularly high-profile, challenging,
and interesting pro bono appointments.
After the Third
Circuit received briefing and
heard oral argument from Bashman
in those three cases, the side
of the case that Bashman was appointed
to represent emerged victorious
each time. And in three different
published opinions, the Third
Circuit has praised Bashman for
the high quality of the briefing
and oral advocacy he provided
to the court.
In addition to accepting
pure pro bono appointments from
the Third Circuit in civil appeals,
Bashman also occasionally accepts
reduced-fee appellate appointments
from that court under the Criminal
Justice Act.
Bashman’s
goal in pro bono cases is to provide
his clients and the appellate
court with the same high-quality
representation and work product
that he provides for his paying
clients. By clicking on the case
names that follow, you can access
online the appellate briefs that
Bashman filed in the Third Circuit
in the three high-profile pro
bono cases mentioned above: Zucker
v. Westinghouse;
In re Robert B. Surrick; and
Spruill
v. Rosemeyer.
